Coach Lou Hughes, Jr.
Assistant Coach
Coach Lou Hughes, Jr. began running track in middle school in 1980 and competed through college until 1989. For three years he held First Place in the AAU Regional Long Jump. He was ranked #1 in the state during his junior year for seven consecutive weeks and during his senior year for five weeks. He was named “Athlete of the Year” in 1985.
Background & Coaching Philosophy
He attended the University of Central Arkansas on a Track Scholarship from 1986–1989. While at the university, he was all-regional, all-conference, and an NCAA qualifier every year.
He is an eight-year veteran of the armed forces and has over 20 years of experience in corporate America, travelling nationally and internationally, with a focus on giving back to the community. He has owned several businesses, most of which have revolved around real estate.
His service to his country and community, coupled with the influence of his grandmother from an early age, forged disciplinary skills that shaped what he believes are the three most important characteristics: honesty, integrity, and character.
He has served on several boards, created four non-profit organizations, and is the creator and author of “The Why Experience.” His prior track experience and life experience have allowed him to be an effective coach and mentor at several levels, including Little Rock Hall High School, Pine Bluff AAU, and now Katy Express.
