All Aboard! First Stop, Nottingham Park!

The Katy Express left the station for the first time this year as the team competed in the 2019 FPR Speed Hay Bale Run at Nottingham Park. Coach Belton watched his 44 club members compete in all events and give many outstanding performances. The top performer from under the big yellow tent was Madison Ferow, who placed fourth in Middle School Girls Division II. This writer also saw her trying out some smooth dance moves to soothe the nerves of her older sister, Mia, who was returning to competition today. Madison’s teammate Meghan Carlson finished tenth in the same event.

Other club members performed well, despite the chilly fall temperature of 80 degrees. Rowan Saacke and Madison Morgan were blonde streaks, finishing 7th and 9th in the Middle School Division I Girls. Additionally, Aiden Johnson and Griffin Saacke had a photo finish in the Middle School Division II Boys event, coming in 11th and 12th respectively. Travis Piccirillo finished 12th among Elementary Boys. Looking to dominate among the younger set, Gage Virga finished seventh while Elias Mollett finished tenth in the 2nd Grade and Under event.

Ultimately, said Coach Belton, "the Katy Express kids ran hard and, most of all, they had fun." Next week, the club hopes to improve on this week’s performance at its annual hosted meet, which will take place at the Mason Creek Hike and Bike Park.
