First Week in the Books!

September 20, 2020

Well, the Katy Express is finally back on the tracks and ready to roll. After a track season that was ended after only a week of practice, we are up and running again with cross country season. The first week of practice is in the books and it was, by all accounts, amazing. The first thing anyone familiar with the team notice was the large number of new athletes who showed up to start the season. Welcome to ALL OF YOU! We're so excited that you have chosen to undertake your running journey with us. It will be hard, but it will be worth it. Just ask any of our returning members.

To all of our new parents, Coach Belton offers the following advice: "Keep bringing them to practice. They'll complain. Keep bringing them. It's a process, and if you trust it, they will get better. Some of our best athletes started out walking way more than running. Just like all of our returning members once; your athlete will struggle. But they get better over the course of the season."

Some of you may have noticed that we only have three meets on the schedule at this time. This is, in fact, a reduction from previous years. As you know, we are in strange and unfamiliar territory for so many things this year, and cross country is no exception. Usually, there are additional meets, as well as area and national championships. We are, at this time, still waiting on the Gulf Association to make an announcement regarding the Gulf Association Championship meet. We will pass that information on as soon as we have it.

In the meantime, we hope that all of you enjoy getting to know each other over the course of the next weeks of practice. Don't be afraid to ask questions, either of coaches, administrators, returning parents, or even our athletes. You will find that we are a very friendly and open group, with the goal of seeing everyone improve- from the station to the nation!!
